Dear Beginning Band Parents,

I have attached a checklist for your child, when he or she practices. It is important that you become involved with your child’s practicing. Ways you can help:

  • Set up a place to practice
  • Designate a time for practice
  • Encourage and give positive feedback to your child
  • Improvement can only be achieved through practice

There is a chart on the right hand side of the checklist, which you can use to check as you progress through your first lesson. It is very important for your child to practice 6 day a week for 20 minutes to develop successful practice habits.

Beginning students should practice 20 minutes. Students will progress quickly and build a strong foundation with a consistent effort each day of the week that they practice.

 HAVE FUN!!!

(I have found that students after their initial beginning lessons, who  practice 20 minutes a day at least 6 days a week generally make excellent progress. They also have alot of fun when they are preparing to play short solos for school sponsored festivals. It is a great way to get positive feedback on all of their hard work through-out the year!)

If you have any questions, do feel free to contact me.

I look forward to assisting your child to develop into a successful instrumental student.

Once your child completes this initial checklist follow the following steps for success:

How to Practice for Success

  • Find a quiet place to set up
  • Take out your instrument & materials
  • Begin with warm-up & scales
  • Practice your homework assignments
  • Look over band ensemble music
  • Pratice a cool-down at end

                     20 minutes a day, 6 days a week!!
